Fundamental Coaching Course

Course Overview

The Fundamental Coach Accreditation is the minimum requirement for coaching in gymnastics. The Fundamental Coach will gain skills and knowledge in preparing and coaching gymnastics sessions involving fundamental movement and gymnastics skills to beginner participants. This course is integrated with SG Coach Level 1 Theory and Values and Principles in Sports and will be conducted jointly by Learning Facilitators from both Republic Polytechnic and Singapore Gymnastics respectively.

Participants need to be 16 years old and above. 

Please note that all registration is managed by Republic Polytechnic.

Course Content

• Coach novice participants to develop fundamental motor skills
• Assist in preparing and conducting sport and recreation sessions
• Develop and update knowledge of coaching practices

Course Completion Requirement

To successfully complete this course, participants will need to:

1.  Complete all online pre-learning & quizzes
2.  Attend all sessions of the coaching course
3.  Pass the assessment at the end of the course
4.  Submit and clear all course submissions
5.  Complete a 10-hr practical experience placement
6.  Hold a valid Standard First Aid certification

Course Outcome

• Learn the fundamentals of movement in Gymnastics
• Begin to apply the 'How to Coach' skills
• Understand how to use and build up progressions for fundamental gymnastics skills
• Know your ethical coaching responsibilities
• Practise group organisation and communication
• Know the structure and purpose of circuit activity planning
• Appreciate the need for different learning styles
• Develop confidence and self-management in different situations
