2021 National Championships: Calling for Volunteers!

We will do our best to match your interests and strengths to each of the specific volunteer roles, so come experience the competitions from the other side of spectatorship. Job Descriptions

Floor Manager

  • Supervision of all activities on the Field of Play.
  • Establish and be responsible for the rostering of floor marshals to cover the Field of Play
  • Plan and conduct a briefing session for all Floor Marshals.
  • Accompany the Program Managers when they perform apparatus inspections.
  • Collect the daily start lists and last-minute amendments to the competition format and forward it to the Program Managers for duplication.
  • Oversee the distribution of daily start lists and last-minute amendments to competition format to Field of Play personnel.
  • Control march on, march off, apparatus rotations, award ceremonies and emergency procedures if required.
  • Ensure the Competition operates to the Daily Run Sheet schedule.
  • Ensure the Field of Play remains clean and tidy.
  • Ensure any unauthorised personnel are promptly removed from the Field of Play.
  • Wear the official Championship uniform at all times for easy identification.

Floor Marshalls

  • Attend a briefing session held by the Floor Manager.
  • Check apparatus and chalk supplies prior to each competition session and ensure the floor area is clean and tidy.
  • Control the marshalling area and ensure all gymnasts and officials are ready at a march on time.
  • Control the gymnasts warm-up to ensure that all gymnast receive equal time.
  • Liaise with equipment personnel where required.
  • Assist the Floor manager to maintain timing by ensuring gymnasts complete warm-up on time, compete in their competition order and are ready for rotation promptly.
  • Liaise with the Event First Aid Team and Floor Manager in the case of an injury and follow procedures as directed.
  • Oversee coaches and delegation officials working with the gymnasts.
  • Work with the Presentation Co-ordinator to ensure the presentation hostesses are ready and the gymnasts are in the correct presentation order for a march on.
  • Assist the Floor Manager to keep the Field of Play clear of all unauthorised personnel.
  • Wear the official Championship uniform at all times for easy identification.

Runners

Responsible for the distribution of the appropriate result sheets and event publications.

IT & Results Volunteers

  • Work closely with technical officials to input and display competition scores
  • Produce reports for the awards ceremonies, website and media.

Social Media Volunteers

  • Use social media to promote the activities during the National Championships
  • Keeping our social media channels updated on a frequent basis
  • Encouraging others to comment on our posts and share them with others
  • Ensure that communication reaches a wide range of local stakeholders and diverse audience

Registration Volunteers

  • SafeEntry procedure
  • To control entry points into Field-of-play (FOP).

Before Competition

  • Before 1st day of competition, preparation of accreditation tags
  • Set up the Registration booth prior to the start of each day
  • Ensure all people entering the venue scan in TT and have their temperature checked.
  • Ensure all people entering are ONLY for the particular competition or podium session
  • Accredit people entering venue:
    • Volunteers, Judges, and Media by checking their identity against the name list and handing out accreditation tags.
    • Coaches and athlete’s accreditation tags will be distributed prior to the event.
  • Sign volunteers in / out

During Competition

  • Ensure that only competitors with the appropriate accreditation passes are allowed to access to the FOP.
  • Ensure anyone in the designated spectator areas are abiding by the social distancing measures and remain in bubbles of 8.

After Competition

  • Collect all Media passes back
  • Sign out volunteers.
 

Awards and Ceremony Volunteers

The Awards & Ceremony team, under the direction of the SG Key Personnel, Giselle Lim, is responsible for the medal ceremonies.

Their specific roles will include ensuring that all is in order for the efficient conduct of each Medal Ceremony. This will include:-

  • Ensuring medals/trophies are prepared prior to the presentation
  • Marshalling both athletes and presenters in preparation for ceremonies
  • Preparing a team to present the medals/trophies and certificates to athletes
  • Co-ordinating entrance and exit to/from the FoP for ceremonies
  • Assist in the medal presentations

Hospitality Volunteers

Before Competition

  • Check mealtimes of the day’
  • Be in position 30 minutes before competition session
  • Only allow accredited personnel the meal area at their designated time.

During Competition

  • Clear any leftover food or drinks from the tables and chairs.
  • Report anything unknown to competition organiser

Music Operator Volunteers

The Music Operator Volunteers, under the direction of the Dawn Ho, is responsible for the operation of the audio desk and other sound equipment such as CD players/laptop computers supplying sound to the competition area.

The Music Operator is also responsible for ensuring the correct set-up of microphones and liaison with the audio systems installation contractor regarding any maintenance requirements.

Music Coordination, under the direction of Dawn Ho, will coordinate the music during competition and with athletes/coaches during training.

Music Coordinator is responsible for:-

  • Work closely with the Announcer to coordinate all music to create an exciting, engaging atmosphere;
  • Organise and play all competition music as and when required;
  • Ensure all event music is played appropriately and at an appropriate volume – this includes the appropriateness of song list choice;
  • Ensure smooth transitions between announcements, competition and event music;
  • Be alert to all activity on the Field of Play and respond to unexpected situations in an appropriate and timely manner;
  • Ensure that all floor music is correctly labelled and cued to avoid delays during competition;
  • Becoming familiar with the operation of the Competition Venue’s audio system.
