2022 Coaches Congress Conclude in Singapore

Published Tue 20 Sep 2022

Singapore Gymnastics (SG) would like to express our gradtitude to all of our Coaches and Presenters for taking the time to attend our 2022 Coaches Congress! The Congress, which took place over three mornings from September 6th to September 8th at Bishan Sports Hall, consisted of 12 targeted Coach Professional development workshops. We are pleased to report that this was one of our most well-attended Coaches Congress to date, with a whopping 143 unique registrations!

This year's Coach Professional Development workshops focused on all five disciplines: Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG), Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG), Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG), Trampoline (TRA), and Gym for All (GFA). The workshop led by Gordon Maclelland, the founder of Working with Parents in Sports (WWPIS), was undoubtedly the highlight of the event. Gordon was able to relate to both ends of the spectrum, our coaches and parents, as a sports parent and coach himself. He shared with the coaches and club administrators some methodologies that they can incorporate into their daily communication channels with parents. Furthermore, this workshop is based on a philosophy that recognises parents as an important part of the club sport experience and supports the development of the athletes coaches. As coaches, it is natural for us to become so focused on our athletes' technical progression that we forget how important it is to keep parents informed and involved in their child's sporting journey. This workshop served as a good refresher for all of our coaches and club administrators, reminding them of the importance of a parent's role and that we are all on the same team – Athlete, Coach, and Parent.

We would also like to express our appreciation to, and specifically thank, the Presenters listed below for sharing their knowledge and experiences with all of our participants! The Presenters consist of:

1. Gordon Maclelland (Working with Parents in Sports)

2. Darren Webster (The Yard)
