2023 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp

Published Tue 24 Oct 2023

Our Women’s Artistic Gymnasts, Nadine Joy Nathan and Emma Yap participated in the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. The competition ran from 30th September – 8th October 2023.

To qualify for the World Championships, our 2 Singaporean athletes had to compete and qualify at the recent Asian Championships held in Singapore earlier this year at OCBC Arena.

Qualification for Artistic World Championships entails athletes vying for a quota sport at their Continental Championships. For this World Championships the continental allocations were as follows:

  • AGU allocated 4 teams and 8 individuals to qualify to the World Championships
  • Since China and Japan had already earned their spot from the 2022 World Championships, this left AGU with 2 team spots at this year’s Asian Championships 2023.
  • Following that, the 8 individual places were allocated to the top 8 gymnasts after omitting all the athletes from the 4 qualifying teams which is where both Nadine and Emma secured their place.

This was Emma’s debut in the World Championships, and Nadine’s 4th World Championships. Despite their hectic schedule and back-to-back competitions following the Asian Games, the duo put up a good fight and successfully completed the competition. Their results are as follows:

Emma Yap:

  • 92nd Individual All Around
  • 12.00 on Vault
  • 10.733 on Uneven Bars
  • 12.133 on Balance Beam
  • 11.833 on Floor Exercise

Nadine Joy Nathan:

  • 100th Individual All Around
  • 12.966 on Vault
  • 11.466 on Uneven Bars
  • 10.300 on Balance Beam
  • 11.00 on Floor Exercise

We are proud that Emma and Nadine both performed to the best of their abilities and did us all proud. Great job ladies!
