Singapore Strengthens Its Status as a Gymnastics Hub with Second Asian-Level Event in Three Years

Published Fri 11 Oct 2024

In a significant move that underscores Singapore’s growing presence as a gymnastics hub, the country has once again secured hosting rights for an Asian-level event. Singapore Gymnastics has been awarded the 2025 Senior Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) Asian Championships, solidifying its position on the international gymnastics stage. The event, scheduled from 16–18 May 2025 at the OCBC Arena, was officially announced at the Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) Congress in September 2024.

This achievement marks the second time in three years that Singapore has been chosen to host an Asian Championships, following the successful organisation of the 2023 Senior and Junior Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships. It reflects Singapore’s ambition to host top-tier sporting events and strengthen Singapore’s position as the sporting destination of choice on the international stage.

The 2025 RG Asian Championships will bring together the continent’s top rhythmic gymnasts, including athletes from traditional powerhouses such as China, Japan, and Kazakhstan. The competition will be fierce as rhythmic gymnastics continues to rise in prominence across Asia.

Singapore Gymnastics President, Dr. Patrick Liew, shared his excitement about this major achievement, stating:

"We are thrilled to once again host an Asian Championships in Singapore, and this time for rhythmic gymnastics. Securing this prestigious event highlights our continuous efforts to develop Singapore as world class hub for gymnastics. We look forward to witnessing top-tier performances and inspiring the next generation of gymnasts in Singapore."

The 2025 Senior RG Asian Championships will serve as an important platform for Singapore’s local gymnasts to gain valuable international competition experience, as well as to further elevate the sport’s profile locally. With support from Sport Singapore and other key stakeholders, Singapore Gymnastics is committed to delivering a world-class event that will captivate both local fans and the international gymnastics community.

Dr Su Chun Wei, Chief of Singapore Sport Institute at Sport Singapore, emphasised the importance of hosting another major gymnastics event: "The 2025 Senior Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships will provide Team Singapore athletes with valuable opportunities to compete against international athletes on home ground. As local fans cheer on our TeamSG gymnasts along with other top gymnasts participating, we also hope that the event will inspire and motivate some of our children and youth to pursue the sport at the highest level. We look forward to welcoming the world’s best rhythmic gymnasts to our shores next year and co-creating an unforgettable experience for all.”

The event will take place at the OCBC Arena, Singapore Sports Hub, from 16–18 May 2025. Tickets will go on sale in early 2025, with further details on participating gymnasts and event highlights to be announced in the coming months.
