Band of brothers ready to take on SEA Games 2019

When you spend so much time with your friends, you tend to share and do everything with them to the point that you treat them like family. That’s the case with these five gentlemen who have been training together for years. Not only do they train together 6 days in a row, they also spend time together after training or on their off days to just chill. Karaoke night, playing pool or just heading to the beach is what they normally have planned. The boys know each other inside out and have each other’s back, along with the support of their coaches and officials. Be sure to catch all the live gymnastics action telecasted on the various channels listed by ActiveSG (https://www.myactivesg.com/Team-Singapore/2019-SEA-Games-Live) and give them our support! We will be bringing updates along the way via our Facebook and Instagram account too!

The Veteran

Terry Tay, 25, is the oldest and most experienced gymnast among the 5 guys headed to Manila. This year’s SEA Games will be his 3rd SEA Games, having competed in 2011 SEA Games in Palembang, Indonesia and 2015 SEA Games right here in Singapore. He will be participating in the Vault and Floor events this year with hopes of bringing back a podium finish for Singapore. Son to former a former National Badminton player, he has the athletic genes running through his blood and is ready to give his best. When not on in the gym, Terry enjoys cooking in his free time but when asked on what his favourite local food is, he cheekily replied

“Bubble tea isn’t local food right?”

The Redeemer

Sean Yeo, 21, is another gymnast who has previously participated in the 2017 SEA Games competition. It was for the All-around event then held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia then however he was unable to complete due to injury. Citing his family and his fellow gymnasts as his strength of support to keep on going, Sean's bouncing back stronger than before and will be solely focusing on his favourite apparatus, the High Bars this games. With 14 years of experience under his belt, he's ready to fight for a podium finish.

“This time around, I am more motivated because I want to redeem myself and finish my routine”

The Joker

Robin Sim, 18, is the youngest of the group and also known as the joker among them. When asked why, he thinks it might be due to his “blur sotong” nature and it brings laughter to his team. He was hyperactive as a child and his parents felt that Gymnastics was the right choice to put that trait into good use. All the hard work throughout the years has seen Robin qualifying to his first SEA Games where he will be competing in the Pommel Horse and Floor events. While he says he can be blur sometimes, Robin's well focused on making the dream of a podium finish come true.

The Tank

Lincoln Forest Liqht Man, 19, is the tallest and biggest among the 5 boys hence, the Tank. He is another debutant in this year’s SEA Games and he will be competing in the High Bar event with Sean. Lincoln’s story of how he started was a story of fate. He was with his father walking past Bishan CC where he saw two trampolines set up. Being a child, he ran up and started jumping when he was not supposed to. The coach then, Mr Sng Puay Liang, instead saw potential in the boy and approached Lincoln’s father to enrol Lincoln in his club. Fast forwarding time, Lincoln overcame injuries to make the team to represent Singapore, ready to put forth clean routines, ready to roar, .

The Designer

Josiah Tan, 22, is also making his debut in the competition alongside Robin and Lincoln. Like Terry, he will be competing in the Floor and Vault events. Currently studying Design in Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), Josiah looks forward to doing Design full time. He is a forward-thinker, in 5 years time, he sees himself happily married to his girlfriend of 5+ years and hopefully still be competing at the highest level. Even if he retires from the sport, he looks forward to give back to the Gymnastics scene as a part time coach. The affinity with the sport is not just about competing, it is also about extending his passion for the sport to others. When asked on what his favourite local food is, Josiah self-professed he's a low-maintenance kind of guy and would gladly eat  mixed vegetable rice everyday.

Cai Png FTW!
