Benefits of sports at young age

Published Fri 18 Feb 2022

Children of all ages need some form of physical activity. For many, it could be just playing at the playground, going for football classes, or taking gymnastics lessons. It is a fun way to keep them active and engaged. To get the most benefits out of any sport, children need to learn certain fundamental skills and these skills varied depending on the child’s age. Thus, it is critical to ensure that children get to learn the basic skills which will allow them to progress and to put all the skills that they have learnt altogether to performing sports that are more complex.

When the child is young, it would be great to adapt the sport to make it easier for the child to play by using modified equipment, having shorter practice time, and making the activities fun so that the children want to keep playing. A great example of it would be the KinderGym programme which focus not only the children’s ability to learn fundamental movement skills in a safe, fun and engaging session.

At the pre-schoolers’ age, it is important to allow the children to do physical activity, have fun, learn new skills, and lay the groundwork for good sportsmanship which will aid in the children’s self-esteem, confidence and learning to work cohesively with others which can foster their social skills.

And sport is not just about the physical aspect, it is also good for their little brains too. Studies have shown that sport has psychological benefits for children and teaches them important life skills. Playing sport helps children learn to control their emotions and channel negative feelings in a positive way. It also helps children to develop patience and understand that it can take a lot of practice to improve both their physical skills and what they do in school.

So, come join us at the KinderGym community where your children can get to learn to enjoy sports and make a positive experience for them in their development into adulthood.
