February 2022 Board Update

This is an update from the 6th Board Meeting, held on Thursday 10 February 2022.

  1. The Board reviewed and approved the following selection policies for 2022 Asian Championships:
  1. MAG Snr & Jnr
  2. WAG Jnr
  3. RG Snr & Jnr

  1. The Board reviewed and approved the updates to the following policies:
  1. P003 Bursary Policy
  2. P013 Media & Communication Policy
  3. P028 Annual Awards Policy
  4. P029 Refund Policy.
  5. P038 Volunteer Management Policy

  1. The Board reviewed and approved the Life Membership application for Mr Sng Puay Liang, nominated by Prime Gymnastics and seconded by Trampoline Singapore.

  1. The Board reviewed the new Fitter for Life programme and the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gymnastics Australia.  The “Fitter for Life” is a fun fundamental movement programme for older participants that allows them a social opportunity to exercise in a safe environment, with the aim to help improve their mobility, strength, and coordination; with activities in these classes catering for everyone’s needs.

  1. The financial statement as of the 31 December 2021 were presented and the forecast continues to indicate that SG are within budget, with a forecasted deficit of approximately $6k which is an improvement vs the budgeted deficit of $18k.

  1. The Board ratified the 2022 Appeals Tribunal comprising the following personnel who will be responsible for reviewing any selection policy appeals:
  • Mr Chai San Gan (Chair) – former 1st Vice President of the MC
  • Ms Lim Siew Kuan – former MC Member and Lawyer
  • Mr Kang Kim Yang – former MC Member and Lawyer
  • Mr Choy Kah Kin – former President of the MC
  • Mr Hoe Wah Toon – Chairman of the Athletes Commission

  1. The Board approved that all National Team travel is to be deferred in 2022 unless the tour is to:
  1. Major Games approved and managed by SNOC,
  2. Asian Championships,
  3. Key events selected by SG where athletes are attending to achieve Major Games qualifying scores and the destination offers a VTL,
  4. FIG sanctioned events identified by SG where the destination offers a VTL.

These recommendations will be re-evaluated between July – August 2022 regarding National Team travel for the last quarter of 2022.

  1. Ho Mun Wai was appointed as a general member to the Governance Sub-committee.

  1. The Board discussed and evaluated the fundraising activities for FY22/23 with the following activities being planned:
  1. Digital Auction
  2. Mass Participation – Singapore record for the 'Most Cartwheels Performed by A Group in X Hours, across multiple venues' which will be scheduled at the same time as National Gymnastics Day on 17 September 2022.
  3. Golf Charity Event
  4. Development of an SG mascot and merchandise range.
  5. The Board will also look into the benefits and risk of digital collectibles or NFTs as a recurring fundraising revenue sourc

  1. The Directors discussed a Board evaluation process and plan with the following outcomes:
  1. Conduct a board evaluation survey in March 2022 that the Governance Committee will develop, compile, analyse, and report back the results with recommendations to the Board for action in April 2022.
  2. The Governance Sub-committee to develop an ongoing Board evaluation plan that will be implemented from FY22/23.
