Trampoline (TRA) Gymnastics one of eight disciplines of gymnastics recognised by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and made its debut at the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000. Trampoline is featured at the Youth Olympic Games, the Asian Games and other major international gymnastics competitions sanctioned by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) around the world.
Locally, Trampoline Gymnastics is part of MOE’s annual National School Games (NSG) with routines for C- & B-Division in Secondary Schools and A-Division for Junior Colleges. It is also part of the annual Singapore Gymnastics competition calendar, with the National Championships in March and the Singapore Open in June.
For the first time in Singapore Gymnastics' history, in the discipline of Trampoline Gymnastics, FOUR Singapore gymnasts have been selected to compete in the upcoming FIG World Age Group Championships (WAGC) to be held in the Ariake Gymnastics Centre, Tokyo, Japan, from 5 to 8 December, 2019.
(The Ariake Gymnastics Centre will be used for all gymnastics event during the Tokyo Olympics 2020).
The 4 gymnasts Charmaine Lee (19), Shannon Leong See Neng (17), Louis Ang Chuan Jun (17) and Low Ern (16) are from Trampoline Singapore, an affiliated club with Singapore Gymnastics. Since 2015, these four athletes have emerged as champions in various competitions such as the NSG, National Championships, and SG Open competitions.
Training started for the team immediately after selection in July, under the tutelage of coach Ms Hiroi Tokuma. Ms Tokuma an experienced competitor herself representing Japan from 1992 to 2007 in many international Trampoline Gymnastics competitions, such as World Championships and World Games.
Accompanying the team will be Mr. Lee Kern Choong, a FIG Brevet 4 Trampoline Judge and the National Judging Coordinator. It will be his first time judging in an international trampoline event of this caliber.
The Team Manager, Mr. William Soh, a volunteer trampoline coach who has dedicated much time and effort to development of the sport in Singapore and the National Technical Director of Singapore Gymanstic’s (SG) Trampoline Technical Advisory Council (TAC) will be leading Singapore’s very first team to the Trampoline Gymnastics World Age Group Championships.
