Know the similarities between Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) and KinderGym? Both focus on the development of physical literacy to allow young children to develop physically, mentally, cognitively, and psychologically to become stronger, faster and better in their development towards adult life. By having an early start to physical literacy to a child is important because it acts as the blueprint for an active lifestyle. It ensures that the child has the best shot at a bright and healthy future.
Then is FMS and KinderGym the same thing? Yes, and No. KinderGym further develop the child in areas like muscle strength, coordination, flexibility, balance and kinesthetic awareness. Through the learning of such skills, a child can connect better with the body's subtle cues, which enables him/her to deepen that connection with the mind and body in the present moment.
Physical literacy impacts a child’s confidence. With the opportunity to build the skills, knowledge and behaviour to move and be active in their lives, the child can approach every situation with confidence. A confident child can enjoy exploring the world around him/her independently. He/She is more likely to be inquisitive about the surroundings and go exploring without the accompaniment or encouragement from an adult.
