Introducing our first international presenter for the High Performance Symposium & Master Class – Sergei Chinkar (MAG)

As a Belarusian, Sergei spent many years studying and coaching gymnastics in Belarus and for the Soviet Union (USSR). Sergei coached many now-legendary names during this time into the history books. Two of the most notable during this time, Olga Korbut, the first to ever do a backflip on the beam apparatus, and then Vitaly Scherbo, who was to become one of the greatest male athletes of all time. 

Sergei was the Belarus National Coach (1990-1994) and the personal coach of Vitaly Scherbo; World All-Around Champion in 1993, six-time Gold Medallist at the 1992 Olympic Games. Vitaly won gold medals on all six apparatus and All-Around during his career competing at the World Championships (1992-1996), including multiple victories on some apparatus. 

In 1994 Sergei relocated to Australia where he has coached for more than 20 years. Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) Gymnastics Head Coach for both Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (1998-2008), Gymnastics Queensland High Performance Centre Men’s Head Coach (2009-2015) and Senior Coach at the National Training Centre of Excellence, Canberra (2015-2017). 

His contribution to Men’s Gymnastics in Australia has been enormous with his gymnasts representing Australia at Olympic Games in 2000 (Damian Istria), 2008 (Sam Simpson) and 2012 (Josh Jefferis). His gymnasts also competed for Australia at World Championships from 1999 to 2014, and won Gold Medals in Commonwealth Games in 2006 (Damian Istria, Horizontal Bar) and 2010 (Thomas Pichler, Floor Exercise). 

Sergei has a PhD of Human Movement – University of Minsk, Belarus and is a FIG Academy Expert.
