Published Sat 09 Nov 2024

The Rhythmic Gymnastics Technical Advisory Council (RG TAC) met in October to discuss key elements for the 2024 and 2025 gymnastics calendar. The meeting covered significant updates and strategic directions to support Singapore’s high-performance pathway.

Judge and Coach Development Opportunities: The 2025 calendar opens with training courses to enhance judging skills at Levels 1, 2, and 3, with a Coach Mentoring Workshop scheduled for early February. The possibility of adding an RG Intermediate Course was also discussed. An updated 2025-2028 judging framework was presented, providing a structured pathway for judges to progress through competencies at each level that is aligned to the new RG National Programme.

Competition Highlights: Key events, such as the National Championships in March and the Lunar Competition in February, were reviewed. The TAC decided to focus solely on individual competitions for the National Championships, excluding group events. These events, offer platforms for development across skill levels for all ages and abilities and will see the full adoption of the new RG National Programme. The TAC's input will help shape the draft directives for these competitions which will be released in November.

International Engagement: Discussions included Singapore's planned participation in prestigious international events, such as the 3rd World Junior Championships in Bulgaria and the Asian Youth Games in Uzbekistan, aligning them with the national competition and training calendar. Additionally, Singapore was awarded the 2025 RG Senior Asian Championships, for which the TAC reviewed current plans and outlined support needs from the RG community. The TAC also highlighted volunteer roles, focusing on involving young judges and coaches in supporting the championship.

FIG Sanctioning for the Singapore Open: The proposal to seek FIG sanctioning for the Singapore Open was reviewed, highlighting that if this is to occur a national team selection policy will need to be developed.

The 2025 calendar, with these discussed events and framework, is set for finalisation and will be available in the coming month, outlining a comprehensive roadmap for Singapore’s rhythmic gymnastics community.
