Singapore Gymnastics successfully held the first Fitter for Life training workshop for coaches in Singapore from 18-19 Oct 2022. We were super excited to be able to bring in Frances Crampton who is the current New South Wales (NSW) state coordinator for the programme to share her experience and knowledge around Fitter for Life.
Singapore Gymnastics extends our thanks to Northstar Gymnastics club for offering their space and hosting this workshop event. We've had wonderful enthusiastic coach participants from Northstar Gymnastics, Prime Gymnastics, Alpha Gymnastics, BazGym as well as health professionals join us over 2 mornings to experience the programme firsthand.
Traditionally older adults have not been encouraged to participate in gymnastics however our sport has proven to be beneficial for people of all ages and abilities, reaping physical, congitive and social health benefits. Gymnastics provides the perfect exercise platform for this age group as it involves balance, flexibility, coordination, and muscle toning and strengthening. Participating in gymnastics can reverse the effects of inactivity on the body, delay the negative impacts of ageing and foster social connectedness and social support. Most importantly, gymnastics is a fun way to get fit!
Here are some highlights over the 2 mornings:
Frances believes Gymnastics is for everyone at any stage of their life! |
Use of handheld equipment & music to get fit, get strong and get active |
Activities can be modified based on participant's medical conditions & ability level |
Designing the gym environment to challenge participants in a fun and safe activities manner | Activities includes elements of BrainGym - working out the brain with movement sequences | Presenter training workshop to support future Fitter for Life programmes and coaches |
