KinderGym coming to an ActiveSG centre near you!

Published Tue 17 Mar 2020

Singapore Gymnastics is partnering with ActiveSG to roll out KinderGym programmes at ActiveSG centres,

aiming to deliver quality Gymnastics into 10-15 ActiveSG centres over the next 12 months and it will be our SG-affiliated clubs who will be running these programmes on our behalf!

We see gymnastics as the nursery of sport in Singapore as it develops a child's fundamental movement skills. The KinderGym programme will allow children to experience and love movement. This innovative partnership will increase accessibility to gymnastics across the nation, provides more opportunities for children to be engaged in sport, instilling lifelong habits of physical activity and healthy living. It will also be a place for our young to socialise and make friends with those from diverse backgrounds.

The first location to be rolling out a KinderGym programme would be Seng Kang! Seng Kang Sports Centre would be where our pilot project be happening in April and we are excited to be bringing all the gym benefits of Fun, Fitness, Fundamentals and Friendship to the kiddie masses. The KinderGym participants would be aged between 0-6 years old with the ratio of the class being 1:8 (without caregivers) & 1:12 (with caregivers).

It would be a set up and tear down structure for the KinderGym programmes happening in the ActiveSG centres, therefore we are slowly but surely amassing a KinderGym equipment library where we can rotate different equipment throughout the different terms and locations.

That's right; Seng Kang is only our first pilot project. We have another 4 more locations to get cracking on in good time! The next four proposed locations are:

Bishan

Tampines

Jurong West

Bedok

The beauty of having these satellite ActiveSG KinderGym programmes is that beyond the increased accessibility to gymnastics to the general public, it also creates a pathway for these children to either further pursue their gymnastics interest at a proper established gymnastics club and/or give them a heads up to any other sports they may wish to partake in. For the clubs who are interested in running these programmes, it could be the perfect opportunity to extend an invitation into their gym to do more gymnastics, throw a gymnastics birthday party and/or develop future talents! Each term runs for 10 weeks and all administrative duties are borne by ActiveSG so that coaches can focus on coaching and engaging the children.

So how can clubs be a ActiveSG KinderGym service provider?

  • Clubs need to be affiliated with Singapore Gymnastics and endorsing the commitment to Child Safety
  • A club must have at least 20 athlete members to be considered a club member
  • Clubs wanting to affiliate need to complete the online Club affiliation manual and submit all relevant documents for approval
  • Clubs need to have at least 2 coaches who are SG-KinderGym certified as well as NROC registered
  • If you have have a KinderGym-certified coach on your team, let us know who they are!

We invite all interested clubs to write in to us at sgoffice@singaporegymnastics.org.sg to express interest in being a SG-KinderGym X ActiveSG service provider. Should clubs be interested but not have any certified KinderGym coaches on board yet, keep your eyes out for our upcoming KinderGym course happening on 21 (Tue) & 22 (Wed) April 2020 from 9am - 3pm at CCAB, course registration opening on Wednesday, 18 Mar 2020!
