The KinderGym course was held on 10-11 May before Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) tightened measures put in place for the COVID-19 situation. This KinderGym was a little special as it is the first time we worked with NurtureKids Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) coaches and what a blast it was! Beside seeing our own Artisitic and Rhythmic Gymnastics coaches in the course, it was refreshing and lots of good fun to have fellow coaches from Floorball, Swimming, Athletics, Soccer and even yoga bring in their expertise and experiences to the table. 
 

The emphasis on the course has always been about providing positive movement experiences that can influence a child's outlook on physical activity for life, structuring the environment rather than the child to provide safe, stimulating and challenging activities with the involvement of their parent or caregiver. The coaches worked on understanding further the Dominant Movement Patterns which are important in building physical literacy, and practise coaching skill with their peers just like they would with children under 6 years old. Coaches also practised giving constructive feedback to each other, identifying potential risk, asking one another questions and having discussions around creating positive sporting exepriences for children.

We definitely look forward to working with more FMS coaches as this means increasing the pool of KinderGym-accredited coaches who can work in tandem with our affiliated clubs and be ActiveSG KinderGym delivery partners. Our goal is to

• Encourage active confident children through Gymnastics, starting with the young ones under 6 years old
• Making the sport accessible but at the same time forming a pathway where children can further their interest and practice in Gymnastics
• Developphysical and cognitive skills in a fun and playful way
• Equip every child with a base level of physical literacy to go further in sport and life
