In anticipation of the new Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) Code of Points (CoP) for the 2025-2028 cycle, which will officially take effect on January 1, 2025, the MAG Technical and Advisory Committee (TAC) has been actively organising workshops and courses to ensure the MAG community is well-prepared. These sessions have been strategically scheduled to equip coaches, athletes, and judges with the necessary knowledge and tools to implement the changes effectively.
The first event was a Workshop for Coaches on Changes in the Code of Points, held online on Saturday, August 17, 2024. This session ran from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm and was specifically targeted at National Squad Coaches and coaches working with FIG Junior and Senior athletes. A total of seven coaches participated, earning Continuing Coach Education (CCE) hours under the NROC accreditation system.
Following the coaches' session, a Presentation for Gymnasts on the Code of Points was conducted on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Bishan Sports Hall. Thirteen National Squad athletes attended the event from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, receiving valuable insight into the upcoming changes in the CoP and how it will impact their routines and performance.
The final preparatory event is the Level 3 Judges Course, which marks the inaugural offering of this advanced level course. Held at Bishan Sports Hall on September 21-22, 2024, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, this course is aimed at former National Team athletes who are interested in pursuing the FIG Judges Course in 2025. Four participants attended, eager to enhance their judging skills in line with the new CoP.
Special thanks are extended to Keon Sin Gen for expertly conducting all of these sessions and ensuring the smooth delivery of information. Additionally, SG is grateful for the support provided by Mr. Sng Puay Liang and the MAG TAC in preparing the gymnastics community for the implementation of the new Code of Points.
With these workshops and courses, the MAG community is well on its way to a smooth transition into the 2025-2028 CoP, ready for the first test of the new rules at the Classic competition in November 2024.
