Published Sun 03 Apr 2022

This is an update from the 7th Board Meeting, held on Thursday 10 March 2022.

1. The Board were briefed on the partnership with Working with Parents in Sport (WWPIS) by Founder and CEO Gordon MacLelland. As part of  its strategic plan, Singapore Gymnastics aims to strengthen support for parents of gymnasts through partnership with WWPIS.

From the partnership, Singapore Gymnastics will have access to tailored workshops and web resources. This initiative with WWPIS will go a long way to create a nurturing and safe environment for all gymnasts in Singapore.

2. The Board reviewed and approved the updated selection policies for MAG & WAG 2022 Asian Youth Games.

3. The Board agreed regular self-evaluations should be conducted to assess its performance and effectiveness. The board will adopt for the 2022 annual general review the survey adapted from SSTI-BoardSource "Online Board Assessment Survey" (2005).  The survey is a checklist to review the list of basic Board responsibilities and an assessment on whether the Board are doing a satisfactory job or whether improvements are required. The Governance Sub-committee will review the results.

4. The Board continued to work on developing a detailed succession plan, which will be further developed and managed by the Governance Sub-committee. The key roles identified in the succession plan were President, Secretary and Treasurer. The next steps for the plan are for the current position holders to review the current roles and responsibilities and develop handover notes.

5. The Board will look to add more Human Resource expertise into the HR Sub-committee.

6. The Fundraising & PR Sub-committee will meet after the National Championships to further discuss the Golf Charity and other fundraising proposals. Work has already commenced in looking for a digital platform to host the online auction proposed for later part of   the year.

7. The Board reviewed the progress to date on the FY21/22 Operational Plan, which is the last year of the current 2018-2022 Strategic Plan. In general, all high priority deliverables will be completed by the end of March 2022, while some lower priority items have been postponed due to resource constraints, and pending re-evaluation  on the return on investment of these tasks.

Below are some highlights of what has been achieved:

  • Increase in participation numbers of over 11%
  • Roll out of the Club Quality Assurance Programme (CQAP)
  • Partnership with WWPIS
  • MoU with Gymnastics Australia and to roll out in FY2/23 of the “Fitter for Life” programme
  • Ongoing improvement regarding board governance and the professional development attended by the Directors
  • Implementation of the SportSG ‘Safeguarding modules across the SG membership.
  • Change in athlete membership structure in 2022 to look to attract more members.
  • Ongoing coach education with courses and workshops conducted.

Due to Covid restrictions,  some KPI’s  will not be met with regard to participation and financial figures linked to hosting events due to the cancellation of SG Open, Annual Awards Dinner and the Gymnastics Carnival. It was noted there is still work to be done on attracting event and membership benefits sponsorship.

8. The Board briefly discussed some strategies to strengthen the RG community, which will be discussed further at the next meeting.

The next Board meeting will be held on 7 April 2022.
