This is an update from the 18th Board Meeting held on Wednesday 24 May 2023 at the SG National Office.
The Board reviewed and discussed the results of the club and community annual survey. The National Office will create a comprehensive action plan based on the survey results. This plan aims to enhance the organisation further. The detailed action plan will be presented to the Board, and key highlights will be communicated to the community.
Additionally, it was identified there was a need to develop and implement additional strategies to boost the response rate for future club and community surveys. This will ensure that the surveys provide maximum value and usefulness in gathering feedback and insights.
During the Board meeting, the topic of effectively communicating and involving the community regarding the Code of Conducts was discussed as a response to the Presidents RG Roundtable in December 2022. It was brought to attention that many individuals are unaware of the existence of the code of conduct, prompting the exploration of various methods to disseminate it among clubs and members. Suggestions included featuring it prominently in club forums, judging courses, and coaches' courses. One proposal involved linking club quality to adherence to the code of conduct. Additionally, it was suggested that clubs could demonstrate their commitment to the code of conduct by signing an agreement during the club affiliation registration process.
It was acknowledged that currently, there is no specific policy addressing club poaching, and regulating such a policy would pose challenges. It was recognised that Singapore Gymnastics (SG) does not have direct regulatory authority over clubs but should explore avenues to facilitate community engagement and encourage self-regulation within the clubs.
SG will develop strategies to further promote the Code of Conducts for clubs, coaches, and judges. These strategies will be presented for the Board's review and tracking.
The Chair of the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championship, Teo Siew Hong, provided the Board with an update on the championship's plans and its progress in meeting the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set by SportSG.
During the meeting, the Board deliberated on the inclusion of the discipline of Parkour under the gymnastics federation, in line with the move at FIG level. A proposal was put forth to approach Parkour Singapore to invite them to be a Full Member. Additionally, there was a discussion regarding the establishment of a Parkour Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to provide guidance on all technical aspects related to Parkour.
With the appointment of a Participation Officer, Singapore Gymnastics (SG) will commence providing support for the execution of national events. They will also be responsible for developing a coaching curriculum that aligns with the standards set by CoachSG and FIG. Furthermore, SG will organise educational courses for Parkour, while the Parkour TAC will conduct these courses and offer technical advice.
The Board was briefed on the upcoming Parkour Asian Tour planned for August 2023. All participating Asian countries, except for Singapore, have expressed their willingness to participate. Singapore's involvement in the tour is contingent upon obtaining the Board's approval. The Board however felt that the short timeline made it a challenge to balance against the other existing priorities as well as the hosting of Asian Artistic Championships which would be held in June.
The next Board meeting will be held on 19 July 2023.
