The Singapore Gymnastics (SG) National Squad had their induction held on the evening of 30 October. At the induction, the "Building Body Confidence & Resilience in Gymnastics" workshop was launched in collaboration with Australian Sports Dietitian, Fiona Sutherland (Gymnastics Australia, The Australian Ballet School), Singapore Sport Institute (SSI) and National Youth Sport Institute (NYSI).
SG is committed to contributing to providing experiences and environments where gymnasts feeling good about their body, and to protect gymnasts where possible from negative experiences and harm.
Led by Ms Liyan Huang, our nutritionist from SSI, the workshop touched on topics like: "Development of the Body Confidence in Gymnastics Guidelines", "Body Image-what is and why does it matter?", "The Four Pillars of Body COnfidence", and "Feeling more body confident". The guideline is designed to guide and support gymnasts, coaches, staff and families in their roles so we can all learn together. It also aims to help create environments where the body is spoken about, spoken to and treated with respect and care.
Participants of the upcoming Singapore Gymnastics Development Programme and the High Performance Symposium can look forward to learning more about how we can support body confidence in gymnastics.
