Singapore Gymnastics held an information session on the 22 November 2024 to unveil the updated Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) National Programme for 2025, emphasising streamlined pathways and enhanced accessibility.
The session, attended by coaches, judges, and MAG Working Group, provided an in-depth overview of changes to the MAG National Programme. Key updates aim to simplify pathways and levels, ensuring alignment with international standards while increasing participation and inclusivity within the gymnastics community.
Streamlined Pathways and Levels
The MAG Working Group explained that the new programme has been designed to align the stages and levels towards a common developmental goal. Changes include updated skills requirements that are more accessible for clubs to implement while staying current with global trends.
The focus on simplification also extends to judging criteria. A representative of the Working Group shared, “Our goal is to reduce areas of confusion for judges, coaches, and athletes. Simplifying the technical descriptions and aligning deductions more closely with FIG standards will ensure clarity and consistency.”
Enhanced Participation and Skill Development
The updated programme integrates feedback from the gymnastics community, with a particular focus on increasing participation. Adjustments have been made to make skills more achievable while maintaining technical quality.
The Working Group emphasised that these modifications aim to make it easier for clubs to encourage participation while ensuring skills remain relevant and aligned with FIG trends.
Manual and Technical Descriptions to Follow
Coaches and judges were informed that detailed manuals and technical descriptions for the new levels will be released before the end of the year. These resources will provide comprehensive guidance on skill execution and ensure clearer understanding across the community. In an exciting initiative to enhance clarity, videos of the basic routines for all levels and stages will be made available before the end of the month, allowing clubs and coaches to familiarise themselves with the updated programme in advance.
An online platform will offer the entire community access to these resources as they are updated, following a one-time purchase.
Focus on Long-Term Athlete Development
The revamped programme underscores the importance of long-term athlete development. By simplifying pathways and making skills more accessible, the MAG National Programme aims to equip young athletes with strong foundational skills, ensuring they are better prepared for the high-performance pathway.
Community Feedback and Collaboration
The updated programme reflects extensive collaboration with coaches and stakeholders. One participant expressed appreciation for the interactive session, noting that the clarifications provided were very helpful.
The new MAG National Programme will officially take effect in 2025, marking an exciting step forward in the development of men’s gymnastics in Singapore.
Remember, the resources will be available for purchase soon, including access to the videos and the manual. We will announce the exact availability as soon as possible, and once released, these resources will remain accessible to the community at all times. Stay tuned for updates!
