Notes from the Board - 2025 RG Asian Championships

Published Tue 18 Feb 2025

The Board, at its meeting on 4 February 2025, received an update on the 2025 Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships to be hosted in Singapore from 14-18 May 2025.

Singapore Gymnastics bid and won the right to host the 2025 Senior Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships at the AGU Congress in September 2024.  This is only the second time that Singapore Gymnastics has had the honour of hosting an Asian Championships, the first being the 2023 Junior and Senior Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

The original bid to the AGU was to host both the Junior and Senior Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships.  The AGU did not award the Junior Championships to Singapore as the international calendar was deemed too crowded.  Instead, they awarded the Junior Championships to the the host of the Asian Youth Games (AYG) 2025, Tashkent in Uzbekistan.  Several months later, Uzbekistan withdrew from hosting the the AYG 2025 and it was awarded by the Olympic Council for Asia (OCA) to Bahrain.  Unfortunately, Bahrain decided to drop rhythmic gymnastics from the AYG 2025 programme of sports and events.  As a result, the AGU in late January, approached Singapore Gymnastics with a view to hosting the Junior RG Asian Championships concurrently with the Senior RG Asian Championships in Singapore.  The Local Organising Committee (LOC), jointly Chaired by Liam Mescall and Lawrence Young, agreed to this arrangement as this was the basis of the original bid to the AGU and will make the overall offering more attractive to spectators.

The Board agreed the overall budget for the event and supported the Project Plan.  Singapore Gymnastics are actively looking for sponsors, donors and volunteers to host the event.
