Notes from the Board – Progress on Our Business Plan FY26–29

These are my first Notes from the Board since becoming Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Singapore Gymnastics. The purpose of these notes is to provide some insights into the development of gymnastics in Singapore, based on discussions that take place within Board of Directors meetings. They are also designed to provide a window into the governance of Singapore Gymnastics. 

The first Board meeting of 2025 took place on 4 FebruaryThere were a number of significant projects discussed and agreed, which will impact the medium to longer term development of gymnastics in Singapore. 

The first was the Singapore Gymnastics Business Plan FY26-29. 

In August 2024 the Board, Chairs of Sub-Committees and Leaders of Technical Advisory Councils (TACs) gathered to review the current Strategic Plan FY22-25 and Annual Operations Plans in preparation for the production of a new Business Plan, FY26-29 (covering the period 1 April 2026 – 31 March 2030)Although this seems some distance away, the next Business Plan is important because it is a road map for the medium to longer term future direction of Singapore GymnasticsIt will set out our intentions for the development of the gymnastics infrastructure in Singapore, including our work with clubs, how we intend to educate and develop coaches, similarly judges and develop membership programmesIt will also highlight our strategies for preparing gymnasts for Commonwealth Games 2026, Asian Games 2026, SEA Games 2027, Olympic Games 2028 and finally a home SEA Games in 2029. 

In January 2025, the Board, Chairs of Sub-Committees and Leaders of the TACs gathered to hear a check-in on progressA report was provided on the progress that has been made crafting the Business Plan FY26-29The following framework for the Plan was agreed: 

 

Our Values – These remain unchanged, but with fuller articulation: 

Respect: 

Acknowledging and valuing the worth of oneself, teammates, coaches, opponents and the sport; fostering fair treatment and appreciation for diverse perspectives. 

Integrity: 

Adherence to a strong moral and ethical code, emphasising honesty, transparency, and fair play both on and off the field of play. 

Collaboration: 

Working as a unified team through effective communication, building trust, and shared responsibility to achieve common goals. 

Excellence: 

The commitment to continuous improvement and the pursuit of personal best, setting and striving for the highest standards of performance. 

 

Our Purpose – This remains unchanged: 

Why?  To create impactful experiences that enrich lives. 

What?  To deliver safe, enjoyable and satisfying experiences for gymnastics participants that enrich their lives and the community. 

How?  Delivering Services – programmes, events, education, facilities management, resources, market development, governance and high performance. 

Who?  The Gymnastics Family of: Athletes, Coaches, Judges, Clubs, Parents, Volunteers, Government, Schools and Sponsors/Donors. 

 

Our VisionThis was amended to: 

To lead and promote gymnastics as a FUNdamental sport for all ages, whilst nurturing world class athletes. 

Our Mission This was amended to: 

 To lead the development and growth of gymnastics, advocating for all and engaging the community through our shared values in: 

  • Building a fit, healthy and strong society. 

  • Maximising the potential of each participant in a safe sport environment. 

  • Achieving success in Major Games and Championships. 

 

In order for our Vision to be realised through our Mission, it has been agreed that the Business Plan will have five pillars, permeated by a number of key enablersThis is best described through the Pillar v Enabler matrix:
