The Board, at its meeting on 4 February 2025, discussed and debated the first pillar of the SG Business Plan FY26-29, Introduction to Gymnastics.  A presentation on this area was made by Emma Koh, SG Participation Officer.  During the presentation, the Board reaffirmed that:

  • Singapore Gymnastics sees gymnastics as the nursery of sport in Singapore as it develops a child’s fundamental movement skillsGymnastics is where Singapore children will be able to learn to experience and love movement.

  • Gymnastics is a FUNdamental sport for all.

  • Gymnastic is the cornerstone of physical education, supporting holistic student development and promoting lifelong fitness

The Introduction to Gymnastics pillar is intended to be an umbrella term for the following programmes:

  • Kindergym – Foundational gymnastics for pre-schoolers, fostering early motor skills and movement development.

  • Proficiency Awards – A structured programme for primary school children to track skill development and achievement.

  • Club Gymnastics – A pathway for children and young people to progress into both recreational and competitive pathways.

  • Fitter for Life – Gymnastics programmes for adults and the elderly, promoting physical health and longevity.

  • Gymnastics for People with Disabilities – Inclusive programmes ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can participate in gymnastic activities.

The Introduction to Gymnastics pillar will be delivered through:

  • Building a larger and more qualified coaching workforce.

  • Engaging primary schools and CCAS.

  • Offering lifelong participation pathways.

  • Hosting participation events to drive engagement such as Gym Challenge and Gymfest but at a very local level.

Singapore Gymnastics’ aim will be to work in partnership with clubs in providing and expanding these programmes, but more importantly, sign-posting those who want to continue beyond the initial Introduction to Gymnastics into SG affiliated clubsThis will require SG to work with affiliated clubs to develop their coaches and operationsFocusing on fostering club sustainability and long-term development.
