Singapore Gymnastics has selected a seven-member team to attend the 18th Junior Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships and the 13th Senior Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships to be held in Pattaya – Thailand from the 23– 26 June 2022.
The Rhythmic Asian Championships is returning to Thailand after a disruptive two years of competition. The 2020 Junior and Senior Asian Championships scheduled for Mongolia and Tokyo respectively were cancelled due to the global pandemic. In two years, there has only been the Senior Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships organised in Tashkent (UZB) during June 2021 that has been conducted.
In 2019 the Gymnastics Association of Thailand successfully held both the Senior and Junior Asian Championships and they are excited to welcome back over 16 countries to Thailand
The Singapore team were selected after two selection events held in April and May and will comprise of three senior and four junior athletes. Fresh from the SEA Games held recently in Vietnam, Katelin Heng will lead this young and aspiring team, supported by Sophia Ho who attended the 2019 Asian Championships as a junior athlete. The rest of the travelling team members are all international debutantes, representing Singapore on the international stage for the first time. The three senior athletes are in the first year at senior level and will use this event as a springboard to the Major Games held over the next 2-3 years.
The team will depart for Thailand on Tuesday 21 June 2022, with competition commencing on the 23 June 2022.
