The RG National Programme Working Group has made significant progress in its ongoing efforts to review and revamp the current National Programme for Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG). In their second update, the dedicated working group shared their achievements, outlining key objectives and principles guiding the development of a new and improved RG National Programme.
The primary focus of the working group has been on creating a cohesive and adaptable programme that unites the RG community, increases participation, and nurtures identified athletes to achieve high-performance outcomes aligned with Singapore Gymnastics goals.
Preliminary meetings with the Ministry of Education (MOE) have already taken place to discuss the integration of the new RG National Programme into National School Games. The programme aims to establish a unified developmental pathway and competition program for all RG gymnasts in Singapore, with flexibility for implementation in schools and clubs to enhance participation and foster high-performance athletes.
The curriculum within the new programme will guide coaches through progressive developmental steps for competition performance, while Singapore Gymnastics plans to develop additional resources to support coach education and nurture the talent of emerging athletes.
Objectives and Measurable Outcomes
The overall goals of the Singapore RG National Programme are comprehensive:
Key measurable outcomes include increased participation in national championships and the Singapore Open, a rise in RG athlete membership numbers, adoption by MOE and all clubs in Singapore, an increase in the number of invitationals based on the program, and a growth in the number of identified athletes.
Guiding Principles
The development of the new Singapore RG National Programme is grounded in guiding principles, emphasising athlete development, coaching knowledge, flexible competition management, fair and consistent judging, community involvement, and a professional product.
The working group is on track to finalise the programme by June 2024. Following this, resources will be developed in July and August, with the full release of the Program and Resources scheduled for September. Workshops for coaches and judge accreditation courses will commence from September onwards. The first competition utilising the new programme is slated for the 2025 National Championships.
To gather community feedback, the working group invites members of the RG community to join an online forum on Monday, January 22, at 12:30 pm, where they will present a draft framework of the 2025 & beyond Singapore Gymnastics RG National Programme.
