Published Wed 19 Mar 2025

Following a world-wide search, where there was considerable interest, Singapore Gymnastics is very pleased to appoint Berfin Serdil Ors as Performance Director.

Dr Patrick Liew, President, Singapore Gymnastics said:

"I am delighted that Berfin has accepted our offer of the position of Performance Director. She is eminently qualified and suited to this position and performed extremely well through the rigorous recruitment process. This completes the formation of Singapore Gymnastics’ Performance Development Team, which will lead and develop our system for supporting and fine-tuning our gymnasts to compete with distinction at Major Championships (Asian, World) and Games South East Asia, Commonwealth, Asian Olympics)."

Berfin is not new to Singapore Gymnastics, having been the Rhythmic Gymnastics Head Coach since 2021 and Interim Technical Director since December 2024. As well as being an accomplished Coach, Turkish National Coach and Singapore RG Head Coach. Berfin comes with an exciting list of accomplishments that make her highly suited to her new role. She has a very strong pedigree as a former International Rhythmic Gymnast for Turkiye, being a six times National Champion, competing in three European (2004, 2005, 2007) and three World Championships (2003, 2005, 2007) and Turkish Athlete of the Year in 2005.

Berfin has a PhD in Sport Biomechanics from Celal Bayar University, Turkiye (she started with a Maths degree) and an extensive list of scientific publications in peer reviewed journals. Whilst attaining and after completing her PhD, Berfin was Associate Professor in Physical Education and Sport at Aydin Adnan Menderes University and Turkiye’s Rhythmic Gymnastics National Team Coach for Individual and Groups. If ever there was a walking advert for being able to combine, in equal measure, sporting excellence and academic attainment, Berfin is.

Whilst coaching at the busy 2025 SG Nationals, Berfin Serdil Ors said:

"I am really pleased and delighted by the opportunity that Singapore Gymnastics have given me, first in appointing me as Head Coach for Rhythmic Gymnastics in 2021 and now as the first Performance Director. I am grateful for the faith shown in me and will do my very best to live up to the challenges ahead. I am excited by the possibilities of leading Singapore gymnasts to Asian and World podium placings.”

Berfin will take up her position from 1 April 2025. Singapore Gymnastics is also very pleased that RG National Coach, Amy Kwan, has agreed to step up to be Interim RG Head Coach for six months. She will provide important continuity and expertise for Team Singapore Gymnasts preparing for the Junior and Senior Rhythmic Gymnastics Asian Championships being hosted in Singapore from 16-18 May 2025. As well as coaching in the RG National Training Centre for the past two years, Amy is a former Commonwealth Games and SEA Games multi-medallist and multiple gold medallist.
