SGDP End of Year Camps Wrap-up

Published Tue 22 Dec 2020

In November/December, Singapore Gymnastics conducted 4 camps for young MAG, WAG and RG athletes and their coaches as part of their progress along the high performance pathway.

A total of 85 gymnasts from 11 clubs (plus the NTC) participated, along with 28 coaches.

A key feature of the camps this year was the introduction of physical testing for all athletes. The testing enables coaches to identify any areas that need to improve in order to develop more difficult skills in the future. As well as this it helps Singapore Gymnastics identify any systemic strengths and weakness which can be targetted in the future.

A key benefit of participation in the SGDP camps is coach development. This is both technical development from participation in the sessions and sharing knowledge with other coaches, and also targetted professional development opportunities available to coaches at the camps. This development helps coaches raise the overall level of gymnastics in Singapore every day when back in their club environment, with all other coaches and athletes they work with.

Thanks to the Programme Managers and NTC coaches for their hard work putting together the schedules and providing the technical direction.
