With the easing of restrictions on 22 November 2021, the Singapore Gymnastics Development Program (SGDP) Camp was able to proceed as planned. The main objective of the annual SGDP camp is to create an environment for coaches and athletes to learn from each other. The coaches and athletes were all looking forward to the camp, especially when the June edition had to be called off due to the tightening of restrictions. The camp was held from 22-25 November 2021 at the Men's and Women's National Training Centre for the respective disciplines.
Led by the National Training Centre coaches, the MAG camp had a total of 13 athletes and 5 coaches. Some of the topics touched on were "Physical Preparation (body manipulation)", the importance of trampoline and the athletes were also introduced to ballet. The boys' strength was also put through a test at the last day of the camp.
Over at the women's National Training Centre, the camp was led by Master Coaches, Mr Eric Boucharin and Mr Brydon Sy, as well as the National Coaches. The athletes and coaches worked on all 4 apparatus, as well as artistic preparation with Stacey Umeh. A strength test was also completed on Day 1 of the camp.
The Singapore Sports Institute (SSI) and National Youth Sport Institute (NYSI) team conducted the Body Resilience workshop during the SGDP camps as well. Similar to the session for the coaches at the High Performance Symposium, the "Body Confidence in Gymnastics Guidelines" was designed to support gymnasts, coaches, staff and families in their roles. It aims to help create environments where a person's body is spoken about, spoken to and treated with resepect and care. It offers "Four Pillars of Body Confidence" as a practical framework to move forward.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the next camp!
