Singapore Gymnastics (SG) has been featured in the Safe Sport Commission’s recently released report on the first 1000 days of the National Framework for Safeguarding Sport in Singapore. This comprehensive Safe Sport Commission report offers a snapshot of the progress and milestones achieved over their past 1000 days, and puts a spotlight on the strategic initiatives that SG has undertaken, the significant accomplishments it has achieved, and the far-reaching impact it has made in safeguarding the sport of gymnastics.

SG has positioned itself as a leader in the gymnastics community by putting sport safeguarding at the forefront of its organisational priorities. As the first National Sports Association (NSA) in Singapore to require all affiliated clubs to have a trained and appointed Safeguarding Officer, SG has raised the bar for safety standards in sport. By integrating this into club affiliation standards, SG ensures that safeguarding is not just a policy but a core part of every club’s culture.

Additionally, all affiliated clubs adopt SG’s Child Safe Sport Commitment Statement, demonstrating a unified stance on athlete protection. To further this initiative, coaching and administrative staff are encouraged to complete Safe Sport eLearning modules, reinforcing the importance of education in safeguarding athletes.

In addition to adopting safeguarding policies as part of the Safe Sport programme, SG has taken additional steps to ensure the well-being of its athletes. One of the key initiatives highlighted in the report is the release of Body Confidence Guidelines, which promote a positive body image for athletes throughout their lives. This forward-thinking approach is designed to foster a supportive environment, helping athletes build healthy, long-lasting relationships with their bodies.

These guidelines serve to address both physical and psychological aspects of athlete well-being, recognising the impact body image can have on performance and mental health. This reflects SG’s holistic approach to athlete development, ensuring that athletes are nurtured both on and off the competition floor.

The Safe Sport Commission’s 1000-Day Report underscores Singapore Gymnastics’ unwavering commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment where athletes can thrive. From implementing safeguarding policies at every level to promoting body confidence and athlete well-being, SG continues to set the standard for excellence in gymnastics and athlete care.

These efforts are not only shaping the future of gymnastics in Singapore but are also contributing to the national dialogue on how sports can be made safer for all participants. SG's role in the report highlights its dedication to safeguarding, athlete well-being, and promoting positive values within the sport.

SG extends a heartfelt thank you to all affiliated clubs for their ongoing support in implementing these safeguarding initiatives. Their dedication and collaboration have been crucial in driving these accomplishments forward and ensuring a safe environment for all athletes.

As SG continues to lead by example, its initiatives serve as a model for other sports associations in Singapore and beyond. With safety and well-being at the heart of its mission, SG is paving the way for a healthier, more supportive future for all athletes.
