Singapore Gymnastics is very proud of the newly implemented Psychology programme for its athletes at the National Training Centre. The programme was developed by the team at Singapore Sports Institute (SSI) and National Youth Sports Institute (NYSI) and is an adaption of a Final Year Project by students from Temasek Polytechnic. This programme is a sequential and ongoing educational programme that will build a creative positive environment, along with resilient high-performance athletes.
It covers off on areas of goal setting, imagery, self-talk and reflection all while encouraging the athletes to develop a “tool kit” of coping strategies that they can take into the daily training environment, into competition situations and more importantly life! The programme starts with our pre-junior athletes at the age of 11 and follows the athletes' development in the gymnastics pathway.
Singapore Gymnastics has taken the opportunity during this Circuit Breaker period to launch the programme and work through 4 consecutive sessions with our athletes, with the last session conducted on Saturday 30 May. The atmosphere of these sessions and the participation of our athletes were truly valued.
Singapore Gymnastics is also in the process of developing a nutrition programme that will work in synergy with the Psychology programme, and would like to thank the continued support of its partners SSI & NYSI to making these programmes possible, in a true effort to build a sustainable framework for the gymnastics in the high-performance pathway.
