June 2018 - Singapore Gymnastics is proud to announce that 7 of our most talented student-athletes have received the Singapore Olympic Foundation (SOF)-Peter Lim Scholarship in a ceremony at the ITE College Central on Friday June 1st.

  • Aiko Tan Jun Gymnastics (Rhythmic) - HPU18
  • Tan Ying, Avryl Gymnastics (Rhythmic) - HPU18
  • Lincoln Forest Liqht Man Gymnastics (Artistic) - HPU18
  • Lim Junyi Kaeson Gymnastics (Artistic) - Tertiary
  • Yeo Xong Sean, Sean Gymnastics (Artistic) - Tertiary
  • Sim Boon Pin Robin Gymnastics (Artistic) - Tertiary
  • Yeo Siew Lyn, Lyn Gymnastics (Rhythmic)  - Tertiary

This is a commendable achievement as just, 269 student-athletes were selected to receive the award out of a record high of 1,243 applications from 216 schools across Singapore and the competition to be nominated is extremely high as each recipient must meet a set of criteria, including posting consistent results in relevant sporting categories.

SOF chairman and Singapore's International Olympic Committee member Ng Ser Miang explains: "Our commitment to support every single recipient in his or her sporting journey remains resolute, as it is our aim to play a part in developing our athletes to reach their potential and achieve sporting glory for Singapore."

The ceremony was attended by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu, as well as Olympic champions Koji Murofushi (Japan, track and field) and Joseph Schooling (Singapore, swimming).
Minister Fu: "To ensure that no young talented Singaporean is deprived of an opportunity because of one's family background, the Sports School provides scholarships and financial assistance to eligible students to subsidise their school fees”.

Aiko Tan Jun - High performance U18 category

At only 15 years of age Aiko is already making headlines – being one of the youngest members of the Singapore Gymnastics Team to attend the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. She made it to the finals of the individual all-around event, and is the second Singapore gymnast to have done so. She's maintained our track record of getting through to the all-around finals and we are looking forward to tackling the individual event finals next.
“My love for rhythmic gymnastics started when I found out that I was talented with hula hoops coupled with my love for dancing, which got me selected to train with the school team”

Tan Ying, Avryl - Gymnastics (Rhythmic) - High performance U18 category

Avryl is a dedicated student-athlete who continues to develop and grow. In 2017 at the SEA Games she won 3 medals: Rhythmic Team – Bronze-Rhythmic Group Single Apparatus (5 Hoops) – Silver and Rhythmic Group Mixed Apparatus (2 Ropes 3 Balls) – Bronze.
“Gymnastics allows me to learn many cool tricks and skills which I won't be able to with another sport, hence it is always a joy to represent Singapore in any competition regardless of the results”

Lincoln Forest Liqht Man Gymnastics (Artistic) - High performance U18 category

Yuni Febriyanti (Lincoln's mother) received the scholarship on Lincoln's behalf. Being a single parent, holding down two jobs and going with-out to support Lincoln, she alone knows the true value of this scholarship.
“Parents must always support their children to succeed”.
This scholarship provides much needed support to Lincoln to continue to develop his talent and pursue his dream.
“My mum gave up her life for mine. So that I can study. I can play and I can do sport. She has to make two times the sacrifice”.

The students were honoured to have Mr Koji Murofushi (Olympic Gold and Bronze medallist and current Tokyo 2020 Olympic sport director) present them with the scholarship.
“What an incredible journey. This is not just another scholarship. It is a key to your dreams and a key to your future”.
