Singapore Gymnastics kicked off its 2024 Singapore Gymnastics Development Programme (SGDP) with resounding success during the June Camp 1. Held over four dynamic days, the camp welcomed more than 60 club athletes spanning three disciplines, representing 10 clubs across the island.
A standout feature of the event was the presence of distinguished international technical experts, including Ukrainian rhythmic gymnast Oksana Paslas, who received her training at the renowned "Deriugina" school. Oksana brought a wealth of experience from her tenure with the Ukrainian National Team, competing in the 2004 Summer Olympics and the 2005 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships. Frank Louter, former coach of the Dutch national WAG gymnastics team, also joined the WAG camp.
The camp's extensive program focused on foundational training for high-performance athletes, skill development, and specialised dance sessions overseen by SG's Artistry Coach, Daria Simbiriova. Each discipline benefitted from guidance provided by our International Technical Experts, working closely with National Coaches to customise the camp experience. Athletes underwent assessments to track their progress within the high-performance pathway, ensuring personalised continuous evaluation a crucial elements of SGDP's commitment to monitoring and supporting athletes in their high-performance journey.
For coaches, workshops were integral to translating camp teachings into effective daily training idea back at their respective clubs. This emphasis on coach development underscores SG's commitment to nurturing both athletes and coaching talent, laying a robust foundation for future gymnastic success in Singapore.
Looking ahead, SG is gearing up for Camp 2, scheduled for November 25-29, encompassing all three disciplines again. Concurrently, the High-Performance Symposium for coaches will coincide with the second camp, offering further insights and advancing coaching expertise.
The 2024 SGDP promises to be a transformative journey, dedicated to fostering growth, empowerment, and excellence within Singapore's gymnastics community. As SG continues to elevate standards and expand opportunities, athletes and coaches alike are poised to achieve new heights on both national and international stages.
