The History of Gymnastics in Singapore - Calling for Your Help

Published Mon 22 Feb 2021

History is a very important part of any community, and with National Championships almost upon us Singapore Gymnastics is asking for information anyone in the community has about the first National Championships.

This will be the start of an ongoing effort to build a more detailed history of gymnastics in Singapore and recognise those who have built the sport to what it is today. You can see the current collation of our History on the webiste under About/History.

According to the records we can currently find, the first National Championships in its current form was held in (presumably) 2009. We are only sure of this because in 2010 the certificate of participation stated that it was the 2nd Championships!

If anyone has any information at all about the first National Championships please share on the Facebook post. If you know of anyone who was involved, tag them in. If you have any photos, please post them. Let's see if build a history of the First National Championships!

For the record, the 2nd Nationals in 2010 (participation cert above) had 25 MAG, 59 WAG and 24 RG athletes competed at Hougang Sports Hall (MAG/WAG) and Seng Kang Sports Hall (RG) over 7 days in September. In 2021 we have over 1,000 registrations across MAG, WAG, RG and TRA, and the competition will be held over 9 days at Bishan Sports Hall.

If you would like to share any information more privately, please email sgoffice@singaporegymnastics.org.sg
