Update on the Review of the Rhythmic National Programme

Published Tue 26 Sep 2023

The Rhythmic Gymnastics Technical Advisory Council (TAC) has taken significant steps forward by establishing a dedicated working group composed of Phaan Yilin, Cecilia Chia, Bianka Panova, Berfin Serdil Ors, Zhou Ying and Cherrie Kwek. This esteemed group has been entrusted with the crucial mission of developing and implementing the Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) National Programme for the period 2025 and beyond under the guidance of the RG TAC.  The working group will review the National Program while taking into account suggestions and feedback from the community.

The primary objective guiding this endeavour is the development of a comprehensive Rhythmic National Programme designed to prioritise a holistic athlete pathway and competition structure that accomplishes the following key goals:

  1. Elevating the overall standards of Rhythmic Gymnastics in Singapore.
  2. Seamlessly aligning with the FIG Age Group program.
  3. Attracting clubs and schools from across Singapore, encouraging their active participation in the program.
  4. Achieving a remarkable 50% increase in participation at the Singapore National Championships within the next three years, by the year 2028.
  5. Establishing a unified Programme that:
  1. Fosters increased participation.
  2. Provides a consistent developmental pathway.
  3. Ensures strong performance at the international level.

The development of this program will adhere to a set of guiding principles, which will serve as the foundational values and benchmarks throughout its creation, refinement, and decision-making processes:

  1. Upholding Fairness and Transparency: Ensuring fairness and transparency in all aspects of the Programme.
  2. Promoting an Encouraging Judging System: Encouraging a judging system that inspires improvement rather than penalising mistakes.
  3. Pursuing Score Consistency: Striving for consistency in scoring across different competitions.
  4. Allowing Participation Pathway Flexibility: Granting flexibility in the participation pathway for gymnasts.
  5. Alignment with FIG: Aligning the Programme with the direction set by FIG.
  6. Ensuring Professional Presentation: Committing to a professional and high-quality presentation of the final programme.
  7. Maintaining Clarity of Rules: Ensuring that rules and requirements remain clear and easily comprehensible.
  8. Ensuring Feasibility of Implementation: Guaranteeing that the Programme is feasible for implementation in both training and competition.
  9. Promoting Efficiency of Implementation: Encouraging efficiency in Programme implementation at both training and competition levels.
  10. Incorporating Progressive Levels: Including progressive levels to accommodate gymnasts' ongoing development.

The goal is to roll out the new RG National Programme in preparation for the 2025 National Championships. Meanwhile, we will actively keep the community engaged and informed through periodic updates, forums, and workshops.

Mark your calendars for March 2024 when we plan to unveil a preliminary outline and framework of the upcoming RG National Programme for your valuable feedback. The RG TAC and the Working Group are enthusiastic about receiving input from the community, and they will be distributing a survey to clubs to gather insights. Your participation is greatly encouraged, so be ready to contribute!

Regarding our current RG National judging team, it's crucial to emphasize that all National RG judges will need to undergo reaccreditation and attend the newly scheduled judging courses, which will take place between November 2024 and February 2025. This step is essential for maintaining their judging accreditation.
