HEAD OF GYMNASTICS – DOVER CAMPUS

UWC South East Asia is member of the UWC movement and a K-12 international school in Singapore. The school provides a challenging, holistic education to more than 5,500 students based across two campuses. Founded in 1971, UWCSEA is a not-for-profit school and is widely regarded as one of the leading international schools in the world. We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join us as:

HEAD OF GYMNASTICS – DOVER CAMPUS

The United World College, Dover campus has a well established and successful gymnastics programme. Supported by a dedicated Olympic gymnastics centre, the programme serves a team of 90 competitive gymnasts and a gymnastics school programme of 400 students.

The Head of Gymnastics is responsible for the design, delivery and monitoring of the gymnastics programme and resources; catering for a diverse range of abilities and age-groups, from Junior School pupils through to competitive High School gymnasts.  The Head of Gymnastics overseas five full time gymnastics coaches and is supported by the Activities Coordinator and a full time gymnastics administrator. The Head of Gymnastics works closely with the Junior School, Middle School and High School Sports Coordinators and reports to the Director of Activities & Sport.

The role entails

Leading the:

  • planning of the annual & seasonal gymnastics school, recreational and team training programmes
  • coaching of all levels of the Gymnastics team
  • development and mentoring of 5 assistant coaches and 4 part time coaches
  • smooth transition of gymnasts through from gym school to MAG and WAG higher level teams.
  • organisation of gym competitions, including local club invitationals and regional SEASAC Championships
  • development of the annual Gymnastics team calendar
  • organization of overseas trips and competitions
  • implementation and monitoring of gymnastics health and safety policies and practice
  • planning and provision of appropriate facilities and equipment to support the Gymnastics programme

Liaising with the:

  • Sports & Activities office who will assist with facility preparation, administration and finance
  • In liaison with coordinators of each WAG and MAG team level to ensure there is an overview, progression and continuity across the gymnastics programme
  • parents – sharing the structure and schedule of the programme and enlisting parental assistance to support the staffing and organisation of events.
  • Communications department to ensure Gymnastics websites, newsletters, surveys and general information follow College policies and are updated in a timely fashion.
  • Finance department to ensure that the Gymnastics programme remains financially sustainable.
  • Physical Education Department scheduling the daily usage of the gymnastics facility and scheduling gymnastics coaches to assist with lessons.

Important personal qualities of applicants should include:

  • excellent communication skills
  • an appropriate approach to age-group training focusing on technical competence, motivation, enjoyment, team-building and long-term success
  • strong organisational skills, including a working knowledge of “Beyond the scores” scoring system.
  • minimum qualifications F.I.G. Level 2, British Gymnastics High Performance coach WAG or MAG with experience coaching both WAG and MAG to a National Level.
