Singapore Gymnastics (SG) is pleased to announce the appointment of our new National Gymnastics Artistic Preparation Specialist (Dance & Artistry Coach) Coach, Ms Wenwen Wang, who commenced work with SG on the 5 December 2022.
Ms Wang is a former Rhythmic Gymnast of the China National Team, a former Company Dancer of Beijing Dance Theatre, a rhythmic gymnastics coach and a certified dance teacher completing her BA (Hons) and MA in Dance and Professional Practice in the UK. She is no stranger to Singapore having resided here between 2013 – 2018 where she completed her Diploma in Dance in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore) before heading to the UK to further her dance education.
With SG’s commitment to ensure the continual improvement of its High-Performance Programme and success at international benchmark events, the appointment of Ms Wenwen to work across all disciplines of the National Training Centre (NTC) Programme is another step in SG’s journey.
Ms Wang will fulfil the role of our inhouse artistic preparation specialist focusing on dance preparation, development of artistry and choreography of routines in particular for our Women’s Artistic (WAG) and Rhythmic (RG) gymnasts. When the judging of routines utilising the Code of Points has a large emphasis on the artistry and choreography of performed routines this is a key role.
Ms Wenwen will work collaboratively with all our National Coaches, under the guidance of our long-term consultant Ms Stacy Umeh, to ensure all athletes at the NTC have the appropriate body awareness and development to mitigate short- and long-term injuries through the introduction of posture and strengthening exercises specific for gymnastics. The attention to body posture and awareness at an early age reduces deductions on the competition floor as well.
The rest of the gymnastics community will be able to tap into this resource at SGDP Camps, Coaches Congress, National Squad training sessions, symposiums, and coaches courses.
We look forward to welcoming Wenwen to our team.
